Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's family life was glorious, varied and loving. Born in Tungipara Sheikh family, Mujib is the beloved child of his parents. Along with his father's rule, he got support and cooperation in his political career. Received the love, affection, cooperation and sympathy of his wife Fazilatunnesha.
The forefathers of the Sheikh family later made progress in business and gained fame after coming to spread Islam. The Sheikh family has an outstanding contribution in the establishment of Bangladesh. Through the uncompromising struggle and sacrifice of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, we got an independent land.
Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the great hero of the development of Bangladesh, was born in Tungipara on March 17, 1920. Mother Saira Khatun was very happy as Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was born after two daughters. Family marriage was prevalent among the Sheikh families and their relatives. Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's father Sheikh Lutfur Rahman married his cousin Saira Khatun. Sheikh Mujibur Rahman married his three-year-old cousin Fazilatunnessa Renu at the age of ten.
Bangabandhu's childhood was governed by the affection of his parents and the love of his family members. Mother's thought was when her beloved skinny baby will grow up? The father thought how his son would become an ideal man. Sheikh Mujibur Rahman spent his childhood in a village house in Tungipara. The simple life of the village people attracted him. Since then, Sheikh Mujib kept thinking about the poor people.
Bangabandhu's wife Fazilatunnessa was an intelligent, patient and courageous woman. Fazilatunnesa lost her father at the age of three and her mother at the age of five and grew up in the same household as Sheikh Mujib and her brothers and sisters. Fajilatunnessa Renu, a childhood playmate, became Bangabandhu's life partner. They were officially married when Bangabandhu was 19 and Renu was 10.
Playmate Renu later on as Bangabandhu's eligible consort gave Bangabandhu strength and courage to lead his political life in a great way. Husband's politics, struggle, imprisonment, handling cases, looking after family members all done with skill and courage. Fazilatunnessa used to hold meetings in his house and cook and serve the leaders himself. Imprisoning leaders helped activists. The inmate used to visit her husband to give advice, convey outside news and convey his instructions to the leader workers.
In the forties, fifties and sixties, Mujib's wife had a watchful eye and love for Bangabandhu when he became a leader. Fajilatunnesa sold his ornaments during the six-point movement and gave financial support to the organization. Begum Mujib sold ornaments for boys and girls to study, run a family and run a case. She suffered a lot for her husband but never complained. He sold his property and settled in Dhaka.
Begum Mujib used to advise Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on many decisions. Due to politics, Mujib's family had to suffer a lot. Had to face many problems while renting and living in Dhaka city. Fazilatunnesa handled everything alone with a strong hand. On March 25, 1971, Pakistan Army arrested Sheikh Mujib and sentenced him to death in a secret military court. Had to endure a lot of insults then.
No one in Dhaka city even wanted to pay their house rent for fear of Pak army. The Pakistan Army evicted the Mujib family from house No. 32 and imprisoned them in a house on Road No. 18. Respect, respect and love of husband and wife for each other strengthens family cohesion. Begum Mujib used to prepare food with her own hands and feed Bangabandhu. Bangabandhu also loved his wife.
On the eve of the March 7 speech, Begum Mujib was telling Sheikh Mujibur Rahman - you can say whatever you want. Who knows the people of Bengal better than you? No matter how many leaders wrote scripts, Mujib did not follow them. According to his wife's advice, he spoke his mind in his own way. And that's why his speech became world famous.
The golden sun has risen past Amanisha's time. Freedom has been won at the cost of many lives and glory. Mujib was released and returned to the country. After returning, parents and wife took refuge in the love of their children. Family happiness and peace was the motivation and courage of all his struggles. His parents were proud of his politics. His family was Bengali in spirit and lived a very simple life.
No. 32 of Dhanmondi had no expensive furniture. But on August 15, 1975, Bangabandhu's family was brutally killed. Fortunately, Sheikh Hasina and Sheikh Rehana survived because they were out of the country. Bangabandhu mentioned in his unfinished autobiography - 'My wife sat in the jail one day and said, 'There you are, write your life story.' Bangabandhu wrote on the first page when he started writing about the ledger - 'My wife, her nickname is Renu, bought me a few ledgers and submitted them to Jailgate. Jail authorities checked the account as usual and gave me the number of books. Renu begged me for one more day in Jailgate so I started writing.' Bangabandhu is proof of how much love you have for your wife, and you can recognize the request of your wife at the very beginning of writing a frank biography.
Bangabandhu wrote in his unfinished autobiography - 'Renu used to suffer a lot, but did not say anything. Bangamata Fajilatunnessa Mujib made endless sacrifices for the happiness of the family members. Bangabandhu was in jail for 3053 days during their married life. But there was never any lack of trust and faith between them.
There was no lack of understanding between them even though they were in prison during the crucial period of their married life. They were happy with very little. If you follow the example of Bangabandhu and Begum Mujib's married life, their respect and love for each other, happiness will surely flow in any family. It is our duty to honor the great sacrifice of Bangabandhu and his family for Bangladesh and the people of Bangladesh.
